I have found that in both real time and virtual, a good Dom(me) fills the mind-space in their sub's head first and foremost. Occupy that mind-space, keep it safe and secure for your sub, and your sub will develop an ever so important trust with you. Once that trust is established, the boundaries of exploration and training are almost endless. This seems especially true in virtual since the physical must be performed almost exclusively by the sub (unless there is another present). BDSM has always confused me. Wrapping yourself into a particular role, creating "head space" and even going so far as a Lifestyle just mystifies me.
I like roleplay. If we're doing teacher/student, nurse/patient, dom/sub, 2 people hate-fucking, whatever ... I just get myself into that mindset. I don't passively let the situation put me into a head space. I guess I always dominate over self so therefore, even if I'm acting as a sub, it's because I choose to do so.
Also, the sacrosanct nature of "consent" as this highest moral standard seems ... odd.
